Early bird work introduces a young dog to the presence, movement and scent of game in a controlled and confidence protecting way.
This stage is not about teaching steadiness, pointing precision or advanced bird handling. Instead, it allows the dog to experience birds without fear, hesitation or pressure.
The handler’s responsibility is to maintain safety, preserve confidence and intervene only if the situation becomes dangerous or entirely out of control.
A positive emotional foundation with birds is far more important at this age than mechanical obedience or rigid control.
